Digital Dayhab – Online Drug and Alcohol Treatment

What is Digital Dayhab?

Help Me Stops breakthrough Digital Dayhab programme has been successfully treating clients at its first Centre in West London and will continue to provide its face-to-face service for as long as Public Health England and the Government allows us to.

However, as we all aware Coronavirus, COVID-19, is wreaking public health havoc on a global scale. Cases of COVID-19 are rising daily, and once testing becomes widespread, these numbers are expected to increase significantly.

Many of our team have been treating people with drug and alcohol problems for over 20 years and we know specific populations face unique challenges. According to the Office for National Statistics the number of drug-related deaths in England and Wales reached record levels last year. Deaths involving cocaine have reached their highest levels since records began in the thirties and alcohol related problems continue to grow. 28% of men and 14% of women are still drinking regularly at levels higher than the recommend guidance and there were nearly 350,000 hospital admissions primarily due to alcohol consumption in 2017/18.

With the advent of self-isolating and social distancing people experiencing problematic drug and alcohol use are having their treatment options limited.

As a response to this Help Me Stop has now launched a Digital Dayhab online treatment service during the day and in the evenings, making it ideal for those that are working full or part time or those furloughed. It will deliver groups and one-to-one treatment for existing and future clients whilst the healthcare sector manages its response to Covid-19. Long term, the Digital Dayhab treatment service will provide a complementary programme to our existing face-to-face Dayhab model and will open up the Help Me Stop recovery solution to people with alcohol and drug problems throughout the UK, not just London.

Effectiveness of Digital Dayhab – Does Online Treatment Work?

Absolutely. A recent study by a group at Yale University, USA, assessed 137 people struggling with problematic drug and alcohol use. 67% of the participants that completed the the web-based programme no longer met the diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder. There were similar findings identified in another study published in The American Journal of Psychiatry (2014).  Further clinical research from the University of Zurich provide scientific evidence of the equal value of internet-based psychotherapy. Published in the Journal of Affective Disorders (2013).

Getting help for problematic alcohol or drug use takes courage and sometimes attending a service in person can be a block. Digital Dayhab removes this. You access the service from home – or from wherever you have enough privacy – using a high-speed internet connection with your computer, tablet or phone. Connecting to sessions is easy, just a few clicks and you’re in.

Our programme features expert therapist led group sessions where you can discuss your feelings and experiences with peers, take part in a number of topic related groups on a range of issues, plus have two weekly individual sessions between you and your therapist. Each of our clients receives an individualised treatment plan that sets out the goals you’ll be working on during treatment.

Drug and alcohol testing is also a feature of our Digital Dayhab, with the facility for us to do remote testing.

Is It secure?
